Botox is a very effective treatment for reduction of 'Dynamic Wrinkles', that is , the wrinkles caused by the delicate underlying facial muscles whenever you laugh, smile or frown. It actually addresses the underlying cause of the wrinkles by blocking impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles only in the area of injections. After the injection takes hold (usually 3 to 5 days delay), the overlying skin becomes smooth and unwrinkles while the untreated facial muscles are still able to contract in a normal fashion.

Botox was originally utilized by ophthalmologists for essential blepharospasm - a condition whereby a patient is unable to control the muscular contraction around the eyelids. When ophthalmologistsobserved the side benefit of smoothing of the Crow's feet areas, it was realized that Botox injections could be effectively utilized for reduction of dynamic wrinkles in the Crow's feet area, frown lines, worry lines etc. Side effects are extremely uncommon, and the FDA in the US has now approved Botox injections for the purpose of reduction of dynamic facial wrinkles. Dr. Walman has had years of experience utilizing Botox dating back to its use for eyelid problems..

Botox treatments are relatively safe and effective. Using a tiny and very superficially placed micro-needle, small amounts of Botox are injected very precisely into several facial locations. Any pain is extremely minimal and momentary. No sedation or local anesthetic is required and patients return immediately to normal activities and can drive themselves from the office.

Botox is not permanent - though each injection does last longer, in general than the previous injection. The first treatment generally lasts around 3 months. As each successive treatment is administered, patients commonly find that the underlying muscles causing the wrinkles essentially start to 'give-up' at contracting in a fashion that induces wrinkles.

It is important to understand that Botox treats only 'dynamic' wrinkles, i.e. wrinkles caused by muscle contraction such as frowning or smiling. (Remember your Mother likely told you not to frown because it would cause wrinkles? - She was right - but they can be treated now easily.) 'Static' wrinkles, i.e. those caused by aging and sun damage and not muscle contraction, are not improved with Botox, but can be helped significantly with other laser technologies that are described below.

Call for an evaluation to find out how easily dynamic wrinkles such as 'frown lines' and 'Crow's feet' can be easily and effectively treated with Botox.
