When you have cataracts, it can be frustrating to find ways to get through life and your daily routines. If your cataracts are bad enough, your doctor may recommend surgery to correct the problem. Cataract eye surgery is an effective way to correct your bad vision so you can return to improved vision health and better daily living. If your doctor has recommended Sun City cataract eye surgery, here is some information that can help put your mind at ease about what will happen and what you can expect from the experience. And remember to do your homework into the eye surgeon team you choose.

The Cataract Surgery Process

Cataract surgery, or lens replacement surgery, is a process to deal with the problem of cataracts a patient may have. After preparing you for the surgery, which may include a sedative to help you relax during the procedure, the surgeon will remove the clouded lens from your eye. There are different methods for removing the clouded lens: using an ultrasound probe to break up the lens; using a laser technique; or removing the lens after making an incision in the eye. If the surgeon uses an incision to remove your clouded lens, stitches may be required. Once the clouded lens has been removed, an artificial lens is implanted where the clouded lens once was. For a more in-depth understanding of what Laser Cataract Surgery entails, please visit our full guide here.

A day or two after surgery, you will have a follow-up appointment with the doctor to ensure that everything is healing properly. The follow-up appointment will be repeated approximately a week after the surgery and again after a month. If all is well after the one-month follow-up, your doctor will likely not need to see you again related to the cataract surgery. If you have further questions, see our Sun City location here.

What to Expect After Surgery

Your doctor will give you specific instructions after your cataract surgery. These instructions will help keep your eye clean and encourage proper healing procedures. If you have any questions about these instructions, be sure to reach out to a Sun City cataract eye surgery specialist.

After cataract surgery, it may take a few days for your vision to begin improving. Once it does, colors should be more vivid and light may seem brighter. This is because the cloudiness that once dulled your vision will be gone. It is important to remember that your eye needs time to heal after the surgery as well as time to adjust to the new artificial lens that has been implanted. As your eye heals, you may feel some discomfort or itching. Avoid rubbing or touching your eye as it is healing, especially if you have stitches to heal an incision.
